Print Art Contemporary is the flagship extension of the Hong Kong Open Printshop, which was established in 2000 as the city's first non-profit, artist-run graphic art organization. The initiative expanded dramatically with the launch of Print Art Contemporary, establishing a major multi-purpose venue at PMQ in Central alongside its professional Print Lab at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre in Shek Kip Mei. Located on Aberdeen Street—the historic birthplace of "Hong Kong Type" movable metal lettering—the Central space features a dedicated gallery and the Open Press archive to preserve the region’s rich typography legacy. The institution’s mission centers on safeguarding Hong Kong’s graphic art heritage while simultaneously forging the future of global contemporary printmaking. It serves as a creative hub that nurtures emerging talents through dedicated artist residencies and local awards, while also hosting international exhibitions to facilitate cross-cultural exchange. The gallery program focuses on bridging traditional printing techniques like letterpress and movable type with the digital-age visual languages of modern print media, ensuring the craft remains accessible, educational, and engaging for the public.
