Oi! is a vibrant community art space located on Oil Street in North Point, dynamically housed within a cluster of Grade II historic red-brick buildings. Originally constructed in 1908, the site served as the headquarters and clubhouse for the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club before being utilized for government storage after the yacht club relocated in 1938. In May 2013, the Hong Kong Government’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department revitalized the complex, naming it Oi! as a wordplay on its location, Oil Street, and an inviting, energetic exclamation. Managed by the Art Promotion Office, its core mission is to act as an open cultural incubator that brings contemporary art into the daily lives of the public through accessible exhibitions and experimental community projects. In 2022, the center expanded significantly with a new, sleek architectural extension featuring an open-air public lawn and multi-purpose halls. Today, it stands as an invaluable green oasis and democratic creative laboratory, actively bridging localized neighborhood culture with boundary-pushing contemporary art.
