Opened in 2014, the Liang Yi Museum is Hong Kong’s largest private museum, founded by the renowned local financier and art collector Peter Fung. The museum is housed in a beautifully restored, four-story building on Hollywood Road, situated in the heart of Sheung Wan's historic art and antiques district. Fung began collecting in the 1980s, and the museum was born out of his desire to share his vast private treasures with the public, while also preserving cultural heritage that might otherwise have been lost to private international collections. The museum’s mission is to foster a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and design by offering an unusually intimate, hands-on museum experience. Unlike traditional institutions where items are kept strictly behind glass, Liang Yi Museum operates largely on a philosophy that encourages interaction. Under the guidance of museum docents, visitors are allowed to touch, sit on, and closely examine centuries-old artifacts to fully appreciate their texture, weight, and ingenious joinery.
