Gagosian was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1980 by the legendary art dealer Larry Gagosian. What began as a single gallery showcasing emerging Southern California artists quickly expanded into a global empire, eventually boasting dozens of exhibition spaces in major art capitals including New York, London, Paris, Rome, Athens, and Geneva. Recognizing the immense growth and strategic importance of the Asian art market, the gallery opened its first permanent branch in Asia in 2011. Located in the heart of Central, Hong Kong, the gallery occupies a sprawling, custom-designed space on the seventh floor of the historic Pedder Building on Pedder Street. The gallery’s mission is to present historically significant, museum-quality exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, representing some of the most influential global artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Gagosian acts as a major cultural force, bridging the Eastern and Western art markets by introducing legendary modern masters and blue-chip contemporary figures to regional collectors, curators, and institutions.
