Founded in Paris in 1977 by Pascal de Sarthe and his wife Sylvie, the gallery has become highly renowned for its strong focus on twentieth-century masters and contemporary avant-gardes, with a particular emphasis on Asian art. In 2010, the gallery relocated to Hong Kong, anticipating the shift of the global art market toward Asia. With this milestone, it inaugurated an active research program dedicated to discovering and promoting the new generation of contemporary Chinese and international artists. A distinctive feature of the gallery is the deSAR program ("de Sarthe Artist-in-Residence"), launched in 2017. During this summer initiative, the exhibition space is transformed into an open artist studio, inviting either a local emerging talent or an international artist to create new work in direct dialogue with the public.
