White Cube was founded in London in 1993 by the influential British art dealer Jay Jopling. Initially starting as a small, intimate space on Duke Street in the St James's district, the gallery quickly gained legendary status for championing the Young British Artists (YBAs), including figures like Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin. Seeking to expand its global influence beyond Europe, White Cube made a landmark move to Asia in 2012, opening its first international branch in the heart of Central, Hong Kong. Located inside the iconic Agricultural Bank of China Tower on Connaught Road, the Hong Kong venue was designed to replicate the gallery's signature pristine, museum-quality aesthetic. The gallery’s mission is to provide an architecturally striking and conceptually neutral environment that allows contemporary art to be experienced with absolute focus and clarity. White Cube acts as a vital conduit between the Western and Asian art markets, curating museum-grade exhibitions that present internationally acclaimed, blue-chip contemporary artists to local and regional collectors.
