Established on May 15, 2015 by the Simon Suen Foundation, the Sun Museum is a non-profit, independent art museum operating under the mission to promote Chinese arts and culture, support local creators, and foster community cultural enrichment. Originally operating in Kwun Tong, the museum marked a major milestone in its history in late 2024 by relocating to its newly designed, street-level home in Sai Ying Pun at Artisan House, adjacent to the creative Artlane district. Spanning 6,000 square feet across two floors, the gallery's modern exhibition space features dedicated first-floor galleries with high ceilings designed to accommodate larger contemporary pieces and cultural lectures, while the ground floor integrates an art library, administrative offices, a souvenir shop, and a relaxed café. Primarily focused on Chinese and local Hong Kong paintings, calligraphy, and cultural relics, the museum frequently curates thematic exhibitions—most notably its signature biennial group show highlighting emerging regional painters—to establish itself as an accessible, vital neighborhood landmark on Hong Kong Island.
