Founded in 1983 by pioneering curator and art dealer Chang Tsong-zung (Johnson Chang), Hanart TZ Gallery is one of Hong Kong's most prestigious and historic contemporary art galleries. Operating under the visionary mission to introduce and champion experimental Chinese contemporary art both regionally and internationally, the gallery has long served as a vital intellectual bridge between Greater China and the global art world. In its celebrated exhibition history, Hanart TZ has been a critical launchpad for some of the most prominent Chinese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong modern masters and it played a historic role in organizing landmark, epoch-defining exhibitions such as "The Stars: 10 Years" (1989) and the groundbreaking "China's New Art: Post-1989" (1993). After decades of operating out of iconic spaces in Central, the gallery relocated its primary exhibition space to a expansive, minimalist industrial loft inside the Mai On Industrial Building in Kwai Chung, utilizing the large-scale layout to stage ambitious solo projects, monumental sculptures, and curated retrospectives that continue to shape the narrative of contemporary Chinese art.
