Novalis Art Design

Gallery · Hong Kong

Novalis Art Design was founded in Hong Kong in 2012 by the Italian art connoisseur and expert William Figliola. Figliola established the space following his previous ventures in Italy, which included founding the Post Design Gallery in Milan in 1992 and later the Italian Arts Foundation. Currently situated on Hollywood Road in the historic district of Sheung Wan, the gallery functions as a unique hybrid between a contemporary art gallery and a cultural center. The gallery’s core mission is to bridge the boundaries of art and design, operating under the principle that both disciplines deserve equal levels of critical respect, appreciation, and intellectual investigation. Novalis Art Design aims to drive deeper dialogues and enhance education surrounding the interplay between art, contemporary design, architecture, and photography. The institution is highly distinguished for its specialization in avant-garde Italian design, notably showcasing a vast collection of objects created by the iconic, radical 1980s "Memphis Milano" design movement led by Ettore Sottsass. Alongside these historic Italian design masterpieces, the gallery represents remarkable conceptual brands like "Meta Memphis" and actively champions both local and international contemporary artists and photographers, providing them with an experimental platform to spark fresh creative dialogues.
