Originally founded in the heart of Tokyo in 1967 by Yukio Shiraishi (and currently led by CEO Koei Shiraishi), Whitestone Gallery is one of East Asia’s most pioneering and influential modern and contemporary art institutions. The gallery's core mission is to introduce prominent Japanese artistic talents to a worldwide audience, challenge conventional market boundaries, and foster rich cross-cultural dialogues across Asia and beyond. Historically renowned as a premier expert and champion of Japan’s radical post-war Gutai art movement alongside legendary masters like Yayoi Kusama, Whitestone has spent the last decade rapidly expanding its footprint. In its Hong Kong history, the gallery first established bases in Wong Chuk Hang and Hollywood Road in 2015 and 2016, later consolidating into a sleek, multi-floor space in Central's prestigious H Queen's art hub in 2018. Continuing its evolution, the Hong Kong gallery relocated to a state-of-the-art space in the emerging arts district of Wong Chuk Hang in 2025. Often collaborating with visionary architect Kengo Kuma on its international gallery designs, Whitestone bridges the gap between historical post-war masters and cutting-edge global contemporary talents.
