3812 Gallery was co-founded in Hong Kong in 2011 by acclaimed cultural entrepreneur and curator Calvin Hui alongside British art advisor and philanthropist Mark Peaker. The gallery's name was inspired by Hui's transformative high-altitude experience at 3,812 meters during an off-piste ski trip in Chamonix, reflecting a continuous strive for new heights in artistic curation. Initially launching its primary contemporary space in Wong Chuk Hang before moving to Wyndham Street in Central, the gallery achieved a major milestone by expanding internationally to London. Originally established in the historic district of St. James's, the gallery's London presence entered a new chapter in late 2025 with a relocation to the newly revitalized development at The Whiteley. The gallery’s core philosophy is anchored in the vision of "Eastern Origin and Contemporary Expression". 3812 Gallery is recognized as an international authority on modern and contemporary Chinese art, with a pioneering emphasis on contemporary ink painting and abstract disciplines. Its curatorial programming systematically places legendary postwar Chinese masters, such as Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-Chun, and Hsiao Chin, side-by-side with contemporary Chinese and Western artists. By actively introducing European collectors to Eastern aesthetic traditions and conversely presenting modern Western movements to the Asian market, the gallery serves as an essential cross-cultural conduit that recontextualizes Asian art history within global contemporary discourse.
