Hauser & Wirth was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1992 by the dynamic trio of Iwan Wirth, Manuela Wirth, and Ursula Hauser. They were joined in 2000 by Partner and President Marc Payot, helping guide the gallery from its humble origins in Iwan Wirth's apartment into a globally dominant modern and contemporary art powerhouse. In March 2018, Hauser & Wirth made its permanent entry into Asia by opening a gallery in the H Queen’s high-rise art hub in Central, Hong Kong. Recognizing the deep connection and engagement of the regional community, the gallery took a major step forward in January 2024. It relocated to a sprawling, custom-built 10,000-square-foot street-level space at 8 Queen's Road Central. The gallery’s mission is to present world-class, academically rigorous exhibitions that champion over 90 modern masters, historically significant estates, and prominent living contemporary artists. Deeply committed to the long-term stewardship of art history, Hauser & Wirth acts as a global leader in art education, conservation, scholarship, and sustainability. Its programming in Hong Kong acts as a crucial cultural bridge, placing internationally acclaimed global figures in direct, dynamic dialogue with contemporary Asian audiences. Beyond commercial exhibitions, the gallery remains dedicated to engaging the wider community through public talks, publications, learning programs, and close institutional collaborations across Greater China and the Asia-Pacific region.
