Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery was founded in Hong Kong in 1991 by the prominent art dealer and cultural entrepreneur Catherine Kwai. Originally establishing her career in banking, Kwai shifted her focus to her lifelong passion for art and philosophy, launching the gallery to provide a platform for exceptional artistic voices. Over more than three decades, the gallery has developed from a single exhibition space into a multifaceted cultural force comprising an art consultancy, a publishing house, and the non-profit Kwai Fung Foundation, which was established in 2020 to support research and education in Chinese modern art. Highlighting its growing regional influence, the gallery marked a major milestone in early 2026 by expanding overseas to open its first international branch in Singapore. The gallery’s core mission is to foster meaningful, bilateral dialogues between the artistic traditions of the East and the West. In its early years, Kwai Fung Hin was a pioneer in introducing European modern art to Hong Kong and mainland China, with a particular focus on the École de Paris and postwar Art Informel painters. Over time, the gallery expanded its focus to champion modern and contemporary Asian masters who successfully merged traditional Chinese cultural sensibilities with Western abstract movements. Known for its academically rigorous, museum-quality exhibitions and extensive publications, the gallery works closely with global institutions, curators, and collectors to preserve 20th-century art history while showcasing innovative contemporary talents on the global stage.
