Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre

Gallery · Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, or vA!, is a dynamic creative laboratory beautifully housed within the historic Cassels Block at the crest of Hong Kong Park. Originally built in the early 1900s as married quarters for British military officers, this Grade I listed Edwardian building was revitalized by the Hong Kong Government and officially opened as an art hub in April 1992 under a striking, modern glass canopy. Now managed by the Art Promotion Office, its mission is to shift the public from passive observation to active creation by providing a supportive, multi-storey platform for art education, research, and cross-disciplinary exchange. Unlike traditional galleries, it acts as an incubator for local talent, offering specialized, professional-grade studios for ceramics, sculpture, and printmaking alongside public exhibition spaces. It stands as a unique architectural and cultural bridge, blending colonial heritage with hands-on artistic innovation.
