WMA Space is the dedicated physical exhibition and program venue of WMA, a non-profit photographic and lens-based art platform established in Hong Kong in 2011. The platform was initiated as a major project by the privately-funded WYNG Foundation, which focuses on enhancing the social, cultural, and physical well-being of the Hong Kong community. Located in a commercial building on Wing Wo Street in the Sheung Wan area, WMA Space was launched to serve as a physical home for the organization’s ongoing curatorial projects, bringing virtual and community-based dialogues into a shared, public gallery environment. The core mission of WMA Space is to cultivate a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s socio-cultural landscape through the powerful, accessible medium of lens-based art. Rather than operating as a traditional gallery, the space organizes its programming around critical, socially relevant themes—such as "Identity," "Transition," "Waste," and "Hope"—that directly reflect the challenges and changes faced by the city. WMA Space acts as a dynamic cultural hub by hosting curated photography exhibitions, presenting the outcomes of its prestigious artist residency and commission programs, and facilitating public talks, film screenings, and workshops. Through these initiatives, the institution strives to connect diverse creative disciplines, preserve the region's visual history, and spark meaningful public discourse in a highly digitized era.
