Founded in 1986 by pioneer creators Ellen Pau, May Fung, Wong Chi-fai, and Comyn Mo, Videotage is Hong Kong's leading non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, presentation, creation, and preservation of video and new media art. Operating under a core mission to support experimental and interdisciplinary practices in time-based art, the institution fosters critical discussion around digital culture while connecting media technologies to issues of social, cultural, and historical value. Its foundational history saw it evolve from a modest, artist-run collective sharing a tiny office with a single table into an influential global network that has staged major showcases at high-profile international platforms like Art Basel Hong Kong and the Venice Biennale. Housed in a historic, red-brick unit inside the Cattle Depot Artist Village in To Kwa Wan, the space manages the expansive Videotage Media Art Collection (VMAC), which serves as a vital historical archive documenting the legacy of moving images in the region since the late 20th century, alongside hosting international exchange programs and the flagship FUSE artist residency.
