Andrew Cheung's ink/landscape painting was inherited from Mr. Ho Choi On, and was awarded a diploma in Chinese painting by the College of Professional Studies of The University of Hong Kong in 2015. He graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in applied arts (costume technology), and was awarded a bachelor's degree (Hons) in art. His ink paintings have been exhibited in Hong Kong, Taiwan, London and Milan. In April 2022, the first solo ink painting exhibition "April Snow - Banquet" was held at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Center with the theme of splashing ink landscape. In 2025, he was funded by The Hong Kong Arts Development Council to create a new series of Dunhuang culture: geometric figures, Apsaras and Avalokiteśvara, reshaping the story, reconstructing the relationship between dots, lines and surfaces, and holding a solo painting exhibition "Seeing Unfamiliar Beauty" at Pao Galleries at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. In addition to painting, Andrew has also designed costumes for Western operas for many years. The costume designs produced for Musica Viva's opera productions include "Dido and Aeneas", "Madama Butterly, "Cutic es uliet", I Amidst millions of possibilities, you encounter exactly what you were meant to; in the boundless wilderness of time spanning thousands of years, there is no such thing as being too early or too late. By chance, everything aligns, and in a single moment, things begin to unfold. It started with a desire to paint Buddhas, which led me to the Apsaras of Dunhuang, the intricate caisson ceiling patterns, and the varying depictions of Avalokiteśvara throughout the eras. Through the process of copying, deconstructing, and recomposing these elements, intertwined with each other, forming a spiritual and dynamic movement, I have-almost unconsciously - accumulated a collection of works centered on Dunhuang.
