Jointly organised with our programme partner Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG), the Guided Field Walks series takes participants back to the northern slopes of Tai Mo Shan, a key ecological site that inspired the WMA Commission “Bones of Our Land”. Each walk is structured around one of the commissioning film’s key lines of enquiry: “Cultivation”, “Conservation”, and “Time”. Through each theme, artists Coşkun Güçlü & Pun Tsz Wai, together with KFBG and invited experts, and the WMA team, will lead participants through artistic research, ecological learning, and collective reflection on “hope”. Part 3: "Time" Soil, as the “Bones of Our Land”, has been the crux of the commissioned project for Tsz Wai and Coşkun. The focus allows us to open up a new imagination of what our land encompasses–the vast diversity of lives, the non-linear journey of destruction and restoration, as well as a historiography that goes deeper than what we come to know of as modern Hong Kong. But taking it one step further–what did life look like before we have soil? Our final field walk shifts the attention to time. Participants will embark on a “deep time walk” across Tai Mo Shan, uncovering the 4.6-billion-year history of Mother Earth and tracing the emergence of life through geological eras.
