At HART HAUS in Hong Kong, artist Michael Rikio Ming Hee Ho presents and i love you dearly, a personal solo exhibition about memory, distance, and what it means to call somewhere home. On view until June 4, 2026, the exhibition marks the end of Ho’s international artist residency at HART HAUS. Through text-based paintings, shaped canvases, and poetic fragments, he reflects on nostalgia, identity, and the stories we hold onto after leaving a place behind. Ho’s practice sits between fine art and language. A UCLA graduate who studied under artists including Barbara Kruger and Adrian Wong, he treats words as more than something to read. In this exhibition, language becomes physical. Text appears across sculptural canvas panels, sometimes seeming to push out into the room rather than stay flat on the surface. The phrases feel like private notes, half-thoughts, or memories caught before they disappear. Some are tender, some anxious, some quietly funny. Together, they create a space that feels both visual and emotional. At the centre of the exhibition is a simple but difficult question: what happens to the places we love after we leave them? Ho suggests that memory changes geography. A city, landscape, or home does not stay fixed in the mind. It becomes softer, stranger, more romantic, or more fragmented over time. His works feel like personal archives, holding the space between lived experience and the stories we tell ourselves later. Raised in Hawaii and shaped by time spent in places including Tokyo and Hong Kong, Ho describes his identity through a “transpacific sensibility.” In Hong Kong, this feeling becomes especially layered. The city connects to his Cantonese heritage, but he also experiences it as someone arriving from elsewhere. That tension gives and i love you dearly its quiet power.
